Q. Can you skim over artex?

A.
Yes, The artex would be scraped back of any big lumps and then sealed with pva. Then it would be skimmed with either 2 or 3 coats of multi finish plaster. If the artex is to thick, a thin coat of bonding will be applied to even out the surface and then skimmed over the top.

Q. What does 'blown plaster' mean ?

A. This is the plaster that doesn't have contact with the brickwall anymore and is just managing to 'hang' on the wall. It can be recognised by knocking with your fingers. You will hear a hollower sound on the blown plaster than in the healthy plaster. Blown plaster should be knocked out and patched up to bring it level with other wall before skimming.

Q. How long do I need to leave freshly plastered walls or ceilings before painting?

A. When all of the plaster has gone the same colour which is a light pink it is normally ready for painting.  This can take up to 7 days but can depend on various circumstances such as heat, weather etc.

Q.
What advice can you give for painting over fresh plaster?

A.
Once plaster has dried give it a watered down coat of paint either from the paint you are going to use or watered down white emulsion and then give two decent coats of paint on top of this.

Q. Will i need to protect my carpets prior to you starting the work ?
